This position serves as the college-wide authority for Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), responsible for planning, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and a proactive safety culture at Olympic College. Under administrative direction, the Safety Program Assistant Manager develops and enforces policies, manages program resources, and provides expert consultation to executive leadership, faculty, and staff. This position has delegated decision-making authority, with direct responsibility for ensuring the health, safety, and regulatory compliance of students, employees, and community stakeholders across all Olympic College campuses.

Essential

Functions
  • Under direction of the Executive Director, administer and direct Olympic College’s EHS program including Accident Prevention Program, chemical hygiene, hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene, fire and life safety, and all other relevant occupational health programs, plans, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Recommend college-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures consistent with OSHA, WISHA, NFPA, EPA, DOE, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide reports, program evaluations, and recommendations that influence college-wide operations to their supervisor.
  • Manage college-wide fire and life safety inspections, contracts, and compliance.
  • Coordinate inspection schedules and provide oversight of life safety documentation.
  • Coordinate procurement of safety equipment with Operations Business Office.
  • Coordinate fire drills with Director of Emergency Management.
  • Manage campus Egress Maps and Emergency Evacuation Assembly Signage.
  • Maintain and upload all required inspection reports and supporting documentation for boilers, elevators, fire alarm and response systems, storm drains, LEV hoods, and methane sensors to the appropriate Teams site.
  • Provide continued consultative services to campus departments, faculty, and staff regarding compliance, safety practices, and risk reduction.
  • Post all regulatory citations on Safety Bulletin Boards and upload them to the CSS Teams site.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training for staff, faculty, and students, including required compliance modules. This includes forklift and MEWP Operation, Fall Protection for Authorized Users, First Aid/CPR and AED, and other required training for operational staff.
  • Create educational materials, safety talks, and ongoing safety awareness campaigns.
  • Lead the college’s efforts to promote a proactive and preventative safety culture.
  • Develop and distribute bi-weekly safety talks.
  • Collaborate with Chemistry and Biology lab technicians and other waste generating departments on proper handling and transportation to Central Hazardous Waste Storage Areas.
  • Conduct annual audits and submit accurate reporting to the Department of Ecology / EPA.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree
  • Experience with Occupational Safety & Health and Fire/Life Safety systems

Benefits

This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $61,404 - $82,512
* annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step

A. When you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union. Classified positions qualify for the following benefits:
