Job Summary And Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing professional care specifically to adult oncology/hematology patients. Work is performed under standards of safety and care that provide instruction and guidance for addressing patient issues and needs in the absence of a physician/provider. It requires the application of judgment and critical thinking skills in making decisions regarding patient care within the scope of practice, including knowledge and integration of available standards, resources, and data, and efficient utilization of staff and resources.
Work involves continuous contact with physicians/providers, patients, patient families, community agencies, patient care staff, and management. The incumbent is accountable for the quality of care provided to patients and has the authority to direct care, provide education, and delegate appropriate tasks.
- Administers, oversees, and documents the administration of medications (topical, oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous) as ordered by the healthcare practitioner and in accordance with hospital policy.
- Administers chemotherapy.
- Applies knowledge of current cancer treatment modalities to patient care.
- Adheres to the department’s and hospital’s policies and procedures, including safety, risk management, and regulatory standards, keeping abreast of trends, developments, and regulatory requirements impacting matters within the designated scope of responsibility.
- Demonstrates competent professional practice and engages in opportunities for professional growth, meeting stated deadlines for all mandatory requirements.
- Incorporates critical thinking into daily practice as demonstrated by the quality of care provided, transfer of knowledge, follow‑through, and patient outcomes.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing program upon hire;
Bachelors of Nursing – preferred. - Oncology Experience Upon Hire: Preferred.
- Required License and
Certifications:
Registered Nurse: WA (RN:
WA) upon hire;
Basic Life Support – CPR (BLS-CPR) through the American Heart Association;
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) – preferred.
