The selected candidate will support our Systems Integrations department working on active-class submarines, surface ships, and shore-based communication facilities using various technical tools to install, upgrade, remove and troubleshoot fiber optic cables and connectors while assisting with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
Responsibilities include:
- Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment.
- Perform maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems, subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- Analyze and evaluate products and related performance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
- Ensure coordinative engineering field changes during installations and removals.
- Maintain effective customer communications and relations.
- Provide on-site training to customer support personnel as needed.
- Apply understanding of production and processes to assignments.
- Assist in development and use of technical documents (controlled work packages, formal processes and procedures, test documents, reports, trip reports).
- Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignments.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
- Must have experience troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
- Must be able to work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction.
- Must be capable of using various electrical/electronic measuring instruments.
- High School education, or trade school or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
- Prefer candidates with an active Secret clearance or above.
- Prefer candidates with at least 4-8 years of experience.
- Prefer candidates with marine electrician experience for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables and connectors on Navy and other marine vessels per NAVSEA standards.
- Experience in Shore C4I is preferred.
- Experience in large NIWC/SPAWAR integrated installation contracts is preferred.
- Prefer technical/professional certifications.
- Prior Quality Assurance certifications are preferred.
- Shipyard Competent Person (SCP) certification is preferred.
- Prior AIT or active-duty experience on current active class ships is preferred.
- Candidates possessing a current U.S. Travel passport are preferred.
The role requires physical fitness: lifting, carrying, and transporting heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs), working on and climbing ladders, operating in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. May involve high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, working aloft or over vessel sides, potential respirator use, and extended sea travel. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
