Maintenance Mechanic 4 – Full-time Classified – Inside Higher Ed
Salary: $66,012 - $76,608 per year
Reports to:
Maintenance Supervisor
- Conduct preventive maintenance, repairs, and modifications on facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Inspect projects to ensure compliance with local codes and industry standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints and plans to determine scope of work, required materials, estimated costs, and availability.
- Order materials and maintain an adequate inventory to support maintenance activities.
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs and perform urgent repairs.
- Perform building repairs, including framing, roofing, and interior sheetrock work.
- Install and finish interior surfaces such as paint, cabinets, countertops, doors, and fixtures.
- Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, including laundry, kitchen, hospital, laboratory, elevator, and air‑conditioning systems.
- Perform routine maintenance on motors, pumps, belts, filters, and other drive components.
- Install and maintain elevator components, printing machinery, power plants, and shop equipment.
- Operate hand and power tools, perform welding, metal fabrication, and general shop tasks.
- Assist the supervisor in daily departmental meetings and safety plan communication.
- Collaborate with the supervisor on developing and implementing maintenance procedures.
- Identify maintenance problems, recommend solutions, and develop estimates for repairs and projects.
- Monitor the operation of key plant equipment such as boilers, chillers, VRF systems, and HVAC components for efficiency and safety.
- Ensure proper lockout/tag‑out procedures and de‑energization of communication and safety equipment.
- Maintain accurate Work Order and Maintenance documentation in the CMMS.
- Generate reports and identify recurring maintenance issues.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, fire protection systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Extensive experience in maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, fire protection systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with communication tower rigging, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergency situations.
This is a full‑time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week. The base salary is $66,012 – $76,608, with a 5% salary increase after six months of probation and opportunities for additional raises. Classified positions are covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union and participate in the Department of Retirement Systems Plan 2 or Plan 3 and the Deferred Compensation Program (DRS).
