Unit Clerk II – Fannin
Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) invites applications for the position of Unit Clerk II—Fannin located in Brenham, TX at the State Supported Living Center.
Location: 4001 S HWY 36, Brenham, TX 77833

Shift: Day (8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday–Friday, with occasional flexible hours)

- Work under direct supervision of the Unit Director and maintain a harmonious work environment with unit staff and facility personnel.
- Perform moderate secretarial/clerical tasks including typing, filing, and organization of documents.
- Execute reception duties, timekeeping, maintain office inventory, and coordinate confidential information.
- Attend work regularly; may be required to work specific shifts, overtime, or rotating schedules per agency leave policy.
- Assist persons served with training to teach daily living and vocational skills.
- Maintain accurate and timely written and verbal communication within and between departments.
- Complete typing of all professional reports by assigned dates.
- File all documents accurately and perform duties of other clerical staff in their absence.
- Communicate with Home Managers and Supervisors regarding clothing and personal items of individuals served.
- Monitor, maintain, and order supplies; report issues to the Unit Director.
- Facilitate financial transactions, including picking up and distributing money, as assigned.
- Participate in career growth and developmental activities to enhance job performance.
- Perform special assignments as directed by the Residence Director.
- Ensure accurate timekeeping and obtain approval from the Residence Director.
- Manage documentation of staff benefits such as FMLA paperwork and extended sick requests.
- Maintain and update staff files as necessary.
- Assist in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activations; may require alternate shift patterns or location changes.
- Attend work on a regular basis and perform tasks per agency leave policy, including possible overtime.
- Assist persons served with daily living and vocational skill training.
- Maintain positive supportive relationships with employees, individuals served, and their families.
- Ensure accurate and timely flow of written and verbal communication across departments.
- Complete typing of professional reports by assigned dates.
- File documents accurately and act in the capacity of other clerical staff when absent.
- Communicate regularly with Home Managers regarding individual clothing and personal items.
- Monitor, maintain, and order supplies; report problems to the Unit Director.
- Facilitate financial transactions as assigned.
- Engage in career growth and developmental activities to enhance performance.
- Carry out special assignments as specified by the Residence Director.
- Ensure correct timekeeping and obtain approval from the Residence Director.
- Manage staff benefits documentation (FMLA, sick requests, etc.).
- Maintain staff file records.
- Participate in disaster response or COOP activations with possible alternate shift or location.
- Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic.
- Knowledge of office management principles and practices.
- Skill in word processing, shorthand, and dictation transcription.
- Typing accuracy and speed consistent with job requirements.
- Ability to apply departmental rules and procedures to solve work problems and maintain confidential records.
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and excellence in service delivery.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- High school graduation or GED, plus two (2) years of clerical experience.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks.
- Musical Support Living Center employees must undergo random drug testing.
- Flexibility in work hours; may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
