Job Description

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus‑based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
Responsibilities- Plan, design, organize, conduct, and evaluate educational and training programs; including New Employee Orientation, refresher training, and continuing education classes.
- Customize HHS FCTD standardized training to increase trainee relevance and use creative techniques to maintain engagement.
- Maintain accurate training records and attendance, enter data into record‑keeping systems, and produce training reports.
- Assist in developing curriculum materials, including multimedia presentations, and maintain department equipment.
- Provide post‑orientation on‑the‑job training assessments and complete required documentation.
- Serve as a Master Trainer and subject matter expert on training curriculum.
- Participate in facility meetings, provide training perspectives, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
- Conduct needs assessments and program assessments to evaluate training sufficiency.
- Participate in disaster response and continuity of operations (COOP) activation as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure delivery of services.
Skills and Abilities
(KSAs)
- Knowledge of working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of training procedures, techniques, and adult education principles.
- Skill to provide effective instruction for large groups and one‑to‑one situations.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with diverse audiences.
- Ability to learn, teach, and demonstrate skills for courses such as CPR, Ukeru, Safe Use of Restraints (SUR), and lifting.
- Ability to use Windows programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment and audio/visual equipment.
- Ability to work within a team environment and independently.
- Ability to support approximately 55 pounds safely during training.
- Ability to evaluate, develop, and revise training programs.
- Ability to use mixed media tools for interactive training.
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and model HHSC mission and values.
- Ability to work an alternate schedule as needed.
- Valid Texas driver’s license required, or obtain within 90 days after hire.
- Certification as a CPR instructor per American Heart Association within six months of hire.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university is preferred.
- At least one year of experience providing services to persons with developmental disabilities in an institutional/residential setting or paid experience facilitating competency‑based training is required.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
