Brief

Job Description

Our state supported living centers serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral challenges. Centers provide campus‑based direct services and supports at 13 locations throughout Texas. This position offers purpose‑filled work in an environment that values and respects those we serve, striving toward greater wellness and independence.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attend work on a regular basis, including specific shift schedules, rotating, extended shift or overtime per agency leave policy, and perform other assigned duties.
  • Prepare materials for assessments using prior data and assist in conducting assessments as directed.
  • Accompany individuals to and from activities and appointments when required.
  • Prepare materials for therapeutic activities and maintain an adequate supply of materials.
  • Perform housekeeping duties in therapeutic activity areas as instructed.
  • Provide assistance to individuals for an assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., supported employment job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, or vocational/day programs) through hands‑on methods.
  • Conduct direct contact observations and complete observation notes.
  • Collect data related to treatment plans as instructed.
  • Provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team about individual progress, work with Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to maintain a connection, and assist in developing treatment plans for the assigned discipline.
  • Provide treatment goals that are feasible for the team to implement and that serve the best interest of the individual.
  • Maintain current skills in relation to assigned responsibilities.
  • Participate in supporting roles for agency disaster response, recovery or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation, including alternate shift patterns or locations when required.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

(KSAs)
  • Some knowledge, or ability to gain knowledge, of relevant therapeutic techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Experience in, or ability to gain experience in, using equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic activities.
  • Ability to assist in the development of treatment and support plans.
  • Ability to collect data for assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).
  • Ability to utilize personal computers and relevant software.
  • General knowledge of, or ability to gain knowledge of, ICF‑IID regulations and State Supported Living Center policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements for direct contact staff positions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
Requirements
  • Education
    :
    High School Diploma or GED or previous employment.
  • Preferred Experience
    :
    Experience working or volunteering with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or performing therapeutic work; experience aiding therapists conducting therapeutic specialties (music therapy, therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, etc.).
Certifications and Licensure Requirements
  • Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 90 days after hire. Out‑of‑state license holders must provide an original certified driving record.
  • Optional:
    Ability to drive a state vehicle may be required depending on facility needs.
