NDT Inspector - Senior (PAUT):
On-Site at VUG - Houston
Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a Senior NDT Inspector to work on-site at our Houston facility, Valmont-United Galvanizing, reporting to the Quality Supervisor. The role involves evaluating the assembly of fabricated materials via dimensional checks, visual weld inspections, and nondestructive testing (UT, PT, MT, etc.).The Senior Inspector will also possess additional certifications such as phased array, eddy-current, radiography, and more. The position requires documentation, communication with the production supervisor, and coordination of the Quality area to meet production goals.
Summaryof Position
The incumbent will perform nondestructive examination on material using visual, magnetic partial, liquid penetrant, and ultrasonic testing methods, evaluate results against contract specifications, and generate and maintain NDT reports and records. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental policies, mentoring entry‑level inspectors, and participating in department safety initiatives.
Work Schedule and Compensation1st Shift (Days):
Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Salary:
Senior Level (PAUT) $36.66/hr;
Advanced Level (CWI Required) $38.86/hr opportunity for step‑pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years.
- High School diploma with 7+ years of work/educational experience or an Associate’s Degree with 5+ years experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree.
- 3+ years’ experience in a fabricated steel environment.
- Level II NDT certifications.
- Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Certification (PAUT).
- Basic mathematical calculation skills and use of measuring tools.
- Operational proficiency with NDT testing equipment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Prioritization and problem‑solving ability.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- 10+ years’ experience in a fabricated steel environment.
- Associate Degree in NDT from an accredited school.
- SNT‑TC‑1A NDT Level II in UT, VT, MT, and PT.
- AWS SCWI certification.
- Proficiency in dimensional inspection and quality assurance disciplines.
- Other AWS professional certifications.
- Passion, integrity, and drive to excel.
- Testing and evaluating products with absolute integrity to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Making decisions regarding codes, including AWS D1.1, and specifications.
- Interpreting NDT reports and accepting or rejecting quality.
- Mentoring entry and intermediate NDT inspectors and documenting OJT progress.
- Performing metallurgical testing, including weld coupon testing and macro examination.
- Obtaining and maintaining advanced inspection certifications as required.
- Rejecting material or stopping work in process to minimize financial loss.
- Completing work within set time limits, maintaining essential tools, and ensuring calibration.
- Participating in safety activities and demonstrating best practices.
- Maintaining attendance and reporting to the Quality Supervisor with no direct reports.
The role is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, and noise (often >80 dB). Tasks include lifting up to 50 lbs (most frequent 20 lbs), reaching, standing, walking, and using hands. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
