OverviewWhile working under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor in the Large Pole Assembly Department, the Fitter Welder 11 assembles products of the unit by tack welding various small parts to pole shafts using the GMAW, FCAW, and SAW welding processes. This is done within prescribed codes, according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. The incumbent will be required to weld out products to meet code requirements, including ultrasonic testing.
Shift3rd shift (Nights) Monday-Thursday 9PM-7AM
PayStarting hourly rate (LG11): $27.75 + $1.00 per hour shift differential. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities)- Uses GMAW process to tack weld various small components to round or square shafts to make a pole assembly; uses SAW process for structural welds. The pole assembly typically includes a square or round press‑broke shaft, base plate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, hanging vangs, brackets, ladder clips, and other small parts.
- Manually positions shaft on a stationary turner for assembly; uses a jib crane to lift various components into position. Frequently pushes, lifts, and pulls up to 50 pounds.
- Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed for assembly, gathers parts from the staging area, and ensures proper placement of attachments.
- Uses a plasma torch to cut steel, and utilizes jigs to cut holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex’s, couplings, and other small parts. Wears protective goggles or hood to protect eyes from harmful rays.
- Uses measuring tape, levels, squares, and angle finders to measure distances and angles, performing basic arithmetic with feet, inches, fractions, and decimals.
- Works in confined areas at various locations of the pole assembly line, moving under, around, and over poles as necessary to gain proper positioning.
- Uses motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to aid in assembly.
- Maintains professional competencies, certifications, licenses, and other required qualifications.
- Reports training needs promptly and consults management if assigned work that is untrained or uncomfortable due to potential safety or risk implications.
- Maintains a clean, organized workplace and implements LEAN practices.
- Demonstrates ability to set up, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty.
- Maintains an acceptable first‑pass yield percentage based on shop standards.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- 3‑5 years of experience fitting in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Ability to calculate simple mathematics and use common manufacturing mathematics.
- 3 years experience reading and using blueprints.
- 3 years previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, and/or graduation from an acceptable technical training program focused on welding.
- Must pass FCAW, GMAW, and SAW weld tests and maintain certification.
- Ability to operate overhead cranes, prior experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5 years previous experience working in an assembly environment.
- 5 years previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- 5 years previous experience operating hand and/or power tools.
- Ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance.

Work is primarily performed in an indoor shop environment. The position is exposed to manufacturing hazards including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, chemicals, smoke, and confined spaces. The environment is fast‑paced and demanding. The employee must wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes at all times, and must remain on feet throughout the shift. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) for the production facility must be worn.
