A Brief Summary Of This Position

The Welder works under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Lead Person and is responsible for set-up and assembly of products for the unit by performing production welding and tack welding to pole shafts using the GMAW process at Valmont Industries, TX.

Shift

2nd shift (Evenings) Monday-Friday 3PM-11PM

Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG6)

$23.64 + $1.00 for shift differential

Opportunity for Step Pay Increases

At 90 days, 1 year & 2 years.

Essential Functions
  • Uses GMAW process to tack weld various small components to round or square shafts to make a pole assembly for structural welds.
  • Manually positions shaft on stationary turner, uses jib crane to lift components, frequently pushes, lifts, and pulls up to 50 pounds.
  • Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed, locates and gathers parts from the staging area.
  • Uses plasma torch to cut steel, utilizes jigs for cutting holes, wears protective goggles or hood.
  • Uses measuring tools to measure distances and angles, calculates conversions between feet, inches, fractions, and decimals.
  • Works in confined areas, moves under, around, and over poles as necessary to assemble components.
  • Uses motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble product.
  • Maintains safety awareness, detects and corrects unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains professional competencies, certifications, and licenses necessary.
  • Consults management about training needs and untrained tasks.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Ability to use common manufacturing math.
  • 6 months previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, or graduation from an acceptable technical training program focused in welding.
  • Must pass GMAW 1-G flat plate and/or rotational weld test and maintain certification.
Highly Qualified
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year previous experience welding in an assembly environment.
  • 1 year previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • 1 year previous experience operating hand and/or power tools.
  • Able to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance.
  • Passionate and integrity-driven, with a drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

  • Must be able to stand for the duration of scheduled shifts.

  • Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.
Mental and Visual Effort

Continual awareness and concentration to assure a safe, efficient operation and material flow to exit. Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20 or better.
