A Brief Summary Of This PositionThe Welder works under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Lead Person and is responsible for set-up and assembly of products for the unit by performing production welding and tack welding to pole shafts using the GMAW process at Valmont Industries, TX.
Shift2nd shift (Evenings) Monday-Friday 3PM-11PM
Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG6)$23.64 + $1.00 for shift differential
Opportunity for Step Pay IncreasesAt 90 days, 1 year & 2 years.
Essential Functions- Uses GMAW process to tack weld various small components to round or square shafts to make a pole assembly for structural welds.
- Manually positions shaft on stationary turner, uses jib crane to lift components, frequently pushes, lifts, and pulls up to 50 pounds.
- Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed, locates and gathers parts from the staging area.
- Uses plasma torch to cut steel, utilizes jigs for cutting holes, wears protective goggles or hood.
- Uses measuring tools to measure distances and angles, calculates conversions between feet, inches, fractions, and decimals.
- Works in confined areas, moves under, around, and over poles as necessary to assemble components.
- Uses motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble product.
- Maintains safety awareness, detects and corrects unsafe conditions.
- Maintains professional competencies, certifications, and licenses necessary.
- Consults management about training needs and untrained tasks.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- Ability to use common manufacturing math.
- 6 months previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, or graduation from an acceptable technical training program focused in welding.
- Must pass GMAW 1-G flat plate and/or rotational weld test and maintain certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year previous experience welding in an assembly environment.
- 1 year previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- 1 year previous experience operating hand and/or power tools.
- Able to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance.
- Passionate and integrity-driven, with a drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

- Must be able to stand for the duration of scheduled shifts.
- Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over, and occasional climbing.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds 10% of the time; average weight of parts lifted is 25 pounds.
- Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.
Continual awareness and concentration to assure a safe, efficient operation and material flow to exit. Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20 or better.
