PASTOR and Museum Manager.
Independence Baptist Church, Brenham, Texas, is seeking a pastor for our small congregation, which is the oldest continually serving Baptist church in Texas. The church’s pastor is also the manager of the Texas Baptist Historical Museum and, therefore, an employee of the BGCT. Museum work hours are Tue-Fri 10-4. A church member works each Saturday.
Parsonage is included.
Independence is located about 10 miles north of Brenham Texas on FM 50. Although Independence was at one time thriving (and the home of Baylor University) it now has a population of 100. Many old homes and buildings have long since been torn down. The successful candidate should enjoy history as it is all around us.
The museum includes the 1872 stone sanctuary where Sam Houston was saved. He was baptized in a nearby creek.
Church address is: 10400 FM 50, Brenham, Texas 77833
The church is congregation-led. There is currently only one paid position (pastor). There are about fifty members, 20-25 usually attend Sunday AM service. Additionally, there is a Wednesday night Bible study and prayer meeting with 10-15 usually in attendance.
The church owns its property but the parsonage and museum buildings/land are owned by BGCT so there is a fairly tight relationship. BGCT has their “Legacy Sunday” service in the old building once a year. BGCT funds half of the salary and all of the benefits.
