Financial Accountant £50,000 - £60,000 | Durham (Bowburn) | Full Time | Permanent Reed Accountancy & Finance are delighted to be supporting a well-established and highly reputable organisation in Durham with the recruitment of a Financial Accountant . This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong qualified accountant to join a successful and growing business, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, statutory compliance, and financial controls across the Group.

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will take ownership of statutory reporting, lead the year-end audit process, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function. This position would suit an ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified professional with strong financial accounting expertise and experience working within a complex group environment.

The Role As Financial Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
Preparing annual statutory financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP (FRS 102) Managing all statutory reporting requirements and ensuring timely submission of filings Leading the annual external audit process and acting as the key contact for auditors Preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation whilst resolving audit queries efficiently Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial reporting and statutory obligations Supporting the preparation of corporation tax information and liaising with external tax advisers Preparing VAT returns Producing monthly Group board reporting packs and management information Supporting balance sheet reconciliations and wider financial control activities Providing oversight of key commercial contract reporting Working closely with operational finance teams to improve financial processes across the Group Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and automation Supporting finance transformation projects and systems improvements Providing technical accounting guidance and support across the wider finance team About You To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess: ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification Strong technical financial accounting knowledge Experience preparing consolidated statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 102) Previous experience leading or managing external audits A solid understanding of statutory reporting and financial compliance requirements Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills Strong stakeholder management experience The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively

Desirable Experience Background within construction, engineering or contracting sectors Experience preparing corporation tax returns for a group structure Knowledge of CIS and construction VAT Experience delivering finance process improvement and automation projects What's on Offer?
