Seeking to hire a Budget Administrator at the City of Brentwood, TN

Expected hiring range will be $93,899 - $106,693+ depending on qualifications.

Final salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity, but most candidates meeting the posted qualifications will fall within this range. The full salary pay plan can be found under the General Employee Pay Grades. The Budget Administrator will fall within Group I-GE (ne).

Up to 5% salary increase after successful completion of six-month probationary period. Plus:
Transportation Allowance of $2000/year to be distributed equally over 26 pay periods annually.

The City of Brentwood is urgently seeking a highly analytical, detail‑oriented, and collaborative professional to join the Finance Department as a Budget Administrator. This position plays a critical role in developing, preparing, and monitoring the City’s operating and capital budgets, supporting long‑range financial planning, and providing financial analysis for City leadership.

The City of Brentwood, located in scenic Williamson County, is considered one of the most desirable suburban locations in Tennessee. The City is known for its strong business community, quality schools, abundant recreational activities, and high standard of living. It sits just south of Nashville and has a population of approximately 46,000 residents.

The Finance Department is responsible for managing the City’s financial resources and operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, revenue collection, and financial planning.

The Budget Administrator position is a professional, analytical role focused on ensuring accurate, strategic, and transparent financial planning for the City. From building multi‑year financial models to preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, this role provides essential support for the Finance Director, City Manager’s Office, and City Commission.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the operating budget development process, including preparing required schedules, documentation, and ordinances for City Commission approval.
  • Assist with development of the Capital Improvements Program.
  • Analyze financial trends and prepare projections, including revenues, expenditures, and multi‑year financial models to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Monitor budget performance throughout the year and prepare regular budget‑to‑actual reports, identifying issues that require management attention.
  • Provide guidance and support to departments on budget preparation, submissions, procedures, and compliance with City policies.
  • Prepare and present budget documents, reports, charts, and visualizations for leadership, the City Commission, and public communication.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, state statutes, GFOA best practices, and internal financial policies, including assessing fiscal impacts of legislative or regulatory changes.
  • Conduct research and analytical studies on operating costs, capital investments, personnel costs, and policy impacts to support financial planning.
Ideal Candidate
  • Skilled in financial analysis, budgeting, and data interpretation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced skills required) and financial systems.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Comfortable analyzing complex financial data and presenting findings clearly.
  • Uses sound judgment and maintains confidentiality.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
  • Certified Municipal Officer (CMFO) certification required within 3 years.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience in governmental budgeting, financial analysis, or public sector finance preferred.
