Systems Engineer (Database), Infrastructure Applications )
The Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Applications is responsible for engineering, building, troubleshooting, and maintaining internal and external production systems.
Description General Responsibilities- Contributes to the team effort in the design and installation of production and internal systems
- As a member of the Infrastructure Applications team, manages existing hardware and software configurations, including participating in 24x7 on‑call rotation
- Helps document solutions, including build and maintenance plans
- Installs new software releases and system upgrades; evaluates and installs patches; and resolves software‑related problems
- Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity
- Proactively manages and supports all software environments, such as development, test, training, and production instances for size, performance, patch versions, etc.
- Provides technical support required to maintain configuration control files
- Identifies and resolves errors or problems with existing programs
- Contributes to a healthy interpersonal and team‑oriented environment
- Is customer service minded and develops and maintains cordial, effective partnerships with business area and other Information Technology and Services employees
- Interacts with vendors and contractors to ensure they are performing competently and that LifePoint is receiving services aligned with contractual terms and conditions
- Ensures that LifePoint best practices are followed for the delivery, implementation and maintenance of systems by employees and contractors
- 5+ years of engineering application implementation, administration, and support experience
- Familiarity and experience with Microsoft SQL and Oracle, database backup and restore, performance analysis and database consolidation
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Solid database administration skills
- Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and monitoring systems
- Associate Degree in Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field (Industry experience can be substituted for degree)
- Excellent communication skills and builds relationships with other team members
Requires prolonged sitting and some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work is performed in an office environment and involves frequent contact with staff and the public.
