Host Institution and Research Environment
The Agrofood Research Hub (ARH) at the University of Brescia is an interdisciplinary research centre integrating ecology, entomology, mathematical modelling, artificial intelligence and data science to develop predictive tools for sustainable agriculture, plant health and invasive species management. Led by Prof. Gianni Gilioli, ARH builds on more than 30 years of internationally recognised expertise in quantitative entomology and ecological modelling. Prof.
Gilioli contributed to scientific methodologies for pest risk assessment, invasive alien species and plant health. ARH is currently involved in two Horizon Europe projects on Invasive Alien Species and collaborates with leading universities, research institutes and public authorities across Europe.
Internationally recognised expertise in quantitative entomology, extensive European research network.
30+ years of scientific leadership in ecological modelling and 10+ years of collaboration with EFSA.
Participation in Horizon Europe projects.
Interdisciplinary team spanning biology, ecology, AI and mathematical modelling.
Conference funding, international mobility and career mentoring.
Position
You will lead methodological developments for predictive ecology, designing robust approaches for parameter inference, calibration and uncertainty quantification.
Main responsibilities
Develop mechanistic and computational models.
Estimate biological parameters and functional relationships.
Develop inference and uncertainty quantification methods.
Implement reproducible computational workflows.
Publish in leading journals and contribute to Horizon Europe projects.
Strong background in modelling and parameter estimation.
Programming skills in Python, R, or MATLAB.
