The CDS Two Rivers regional site in Brewer has a full‑time opening for an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. The position works with preschool children with disabilities ages 3‑5 and is a 40‑hour per week, academic year role. Local travel may be required. Experience working with multi‑disciplinary teams and the preschool population is preferred.
Salary Range$35,290 – $61,191 per year

This is a 40‑hour per week, calendar year position at the CDS York regional site in Arundel. Travel is required. The role is part of the Part B Early Childhood Special Education team, providing services to preschool children ages 3‑5 in the least restrictive environment. Experience working with preschool‑aged children and a multidisciplinary team is preferred. A current Ed Tech III certification and Criminal History Records Check are required.
SummaryDescription
The Teacher of Children with Disabilities 0‑5 is a member of the IFSP/IEP team and provides services to children birth to age 5. The teacher ensures that services meet the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004 and Maine's Unified Special Education Regulations Chapter 101.
Responsibilities- Engage the child in developmental and learning activities.
- Provide instruction at the child's developmental level.
- Facilitate learning by engaging the child at the appropriate level and applying direct teaching techniques as needed.
- Support acquisition of new academic and social skills/knowledge and ensure quality delivery.
- Communicate relevant information to team members about the child's learning environment, family events, and other pertinent updates.
- Implement curriculum appropriate to the nature and needs of individual children.
- Prepare or utilize child‑appropriate activities in early intervention and special education environments.
- Supervise Educational Technicians in programs.
- Ensure parents receive accurate information in a timely manner.
- Inform parents of progress toward child outcomes as a member of IFSP/IEP teams.
- Conduct observations in the child's natural environment or LRE setting.
- Gather and review documentation specific to the child's developmental history.
- Conduct interviews with parents to obtain developmental history.
- Determine the child's level of functioning and express that in a summary of evaluation results and diagnostic impressions within evaluation reports.
- Ensure evaluation findings are reported to the IFSP/IEP team.
- Contribute goals to the IFSP/IEP team and short‑term objectives where appropriate.
- Write and maintain required reports for therapy to meet Maine Care and other regulatory requirements.
- Assist the IFSP/IEP team with goal development based upon assessment results.
- Provide special instruction as specified by the IFSP/IEP.
- Communicate with CDS Case Managers and other providers through the course of the child's IFSP/IEP.
- Complete billing documents to ensure proper billing to third parties and Case Managers in accordance with CDS practice.
- Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Site Director/Supervisor.
- 282B (Teacher of Children with Disabilities – PRE‑KIND) certification required.
- Successful background, criminal records, and reference checks.
- Knowledge of child development, disabilities, family systems, and special education methods.
