Clinical Fellow in ED & PEM

Are you looking for opportunities to develop your teaching, quality improvement or research skills?, You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of middle grade doctors, ACPs, ENPs and consultants in the ED at the Princess of Wales Hospital providing front line care to patients of all ages.

The department provides a consultant led service and there is direct consultant shop floor cover approximately 13 hours a day, 7 days a week. This role will involve 6 months working in the main department and 6 months working exclusively in the children's emergency bay. The ED at the Princess of Wales Hospital sees approximately 64,000 new patients per year.

There is substantial exposure to the breadth of EM cases ranging from seriously ill or injured adults and children to minor injuries, with ample opportunities to develop EM procedural skills. Our ED has a dedicated, dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team. This provides an excellent and supportive working environment. You will have opportunities to be involved in undergraduate teaching and mentoring junior doctors.,

You will provide a clinical service in conjunction with your colleagues and under the direction of the Emergency Consultants, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice laid down in the guidance of Good Medical Practice issued by the General Medical Council.

You will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and in exceptional unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department. Where such duties take place outside your normal contracted duties, you will receive either an equivalent off duty period or will be remunerated appropriately. You will be required to participate in the Health Boards (HB) risk management process and in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the HB.

Adherence to Caldicot Principles is mandatory. You will be required to participate in the HBs Appraisal Scheme in conjunction with your Supervising Consultant, to identify training and development needs. You will be expected to participate in personal and professional development to fulfill Royal College CME requirements. You will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.

You will be required to participate and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the HBs policy. The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 impose a legal responsibility on HBs for all staff that refer patients for medical radiation exposure such as diagnostic x-rays to supply sufficient data to enable those considering the request to decide whether the procedure is justified.

The appointee will be required to maintain his/her private residence in contact with the public telephone service. In exceptional circumstances it may also be necessary to undertake duties at other locations with the HB. Subject to the terms and conditions of service the postholder will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the HB drawn up in consultation with the professions, where they involve clinical matters.

• Full GMC/GDC Registration
• MB, BCh or recognised equivalent
• 3 years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least 12 months of Emergency Medicine, Previous experience of working in the NHS/experience of NHS UK working practices and systems.
• Evidence of participation in, progressing and completing audit / QI, Up to date with current practices in Emergency Medicine
• Current certification in at least two of ATLS/APLS/EPALS/ALS
