Teaching Personnel is seeking a resilient, empathetic, and proactive Behaviour Mentor to support students within a specialist SEND provision in Bridgend. This maintained special school caters for pupils aged 5-19 years with a range of additional learning needs, including Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The successful candidate will work across varying key stages, so being flexible working with all ages is crucial.

As a behaviour mentor you will be providing tailored support to help children manage behavioural and emotional challenges, develop positive relationships, and engage successfully in education. This is a highly rewarding role for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their full potential.

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with behavioural and emotional needs.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with young people to encourage engagement and participation.
• Support students to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills.
• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and promote consistency throughout the school day.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and SEN professionals to support student progress.
• Encourage students to overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academically and personally.
• Act as a positive role model and promote confidence, independence, and self-esteem.

• Youth Worker

• Teaching Assistant
• Learning Support Assistant
• Drama, Performing Arts, or Creative Arts Practitioner
• Military, Emergency Services, or Community Support Roles

You will ideally have:

• Experience working with young people.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• An understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice, SEND, ASD, or ADHD.
• The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students, staff, and families.
• Additional training such as Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support, or Trauma-Informed Practice is advantageous but not essential. We can also provide this.

• Enhanced DBS Certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register (full support provided).
• Minimum of 2 references to cover the last 24 months of employment
