Role Overview

As the Technical Lead - Connections you will play a critical role in assisting the Connections team as we support our members as they tackle the mission critical challenges affecting the sector.

As the UK continues its journey towards a Net Zero future, all industries are looking to enable them to move to low and no carbon options. The Connections Technical Lead will steer the industry-leading Strategic Connections programme, as well as the delivery groups focused on solution implementation activities.

As the Technical Lead for Connection Reform, you will be responsible for supporting other members in the technical design, development, and implementation of reforms to the electricity grid connection processes, across both transmission and distribution levels. This includes TMO4+ implementation, DNO alignment with future energy system requirements, and ensuring a coordinated and future proofed connections reform programme in line with industry regulations and stakeholder expectations.

In collaboration with the Strategic Connections Group’s (SCG) elected chairperson, the Connections Technical Lead will identify the long list of strategic connections issues that require resolution, establish a prioritisation of the long list of issues, shape the use cases and solution required, and support the assembling and management of a subgroup to deliver against agreed plans. You will collaborate with other member companies to support the creation, and delivery of a range of projects, which will vary year to year based on member and working groups’ needs.

This will require an understanding and experience of working in the connections landscape as well as proven project and stakeholder management capabilities. The initiatives delivered through the SCG will be internal (such as identifying new ways in which Networks can optimise the connections queue) as well as external (identifying best practices for connections customers that better support connection outcomes & decarbonisation).

The solutions created through these initiatives will then be implemented nationally across all GB Electricity Networks.

As the Technical Lead - Connection, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical design, development, and implementation of reforms to the electricity grid connection processes across both transmission and distribution levels. This includes leadership on TMO4+ implementation, DNO alignment with future energy system requirements, and ensuring a coordinated and future proofed connections reform programme in line with industry regulations and stakeholder expectations.
