Sterile Services Technician

Closing date: 22 February 2026

Responsible for carrying out tasks related to the decontamination process, including the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment. These items are prepared to ensure they are safe and ready for use in patient treatment across Theatres, Wards and other clinical departments, in compliance with established protocols and infection control standards.

Welsh Skills Desirable: Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. This is an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates.

Main duties of the job
  • Clean, disinfect, inspect, pack and sterilise medical instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure all items are prepared to the highest standards for use in Theatres, Wards and other clinical departments.
  • Operate and maintain decontamination equipment in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety standards.
  • Accurately record and maintain documentation relating to instrument processing and traceability.
  • Assist with stock control and the safe storage of sterile items.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and clinical teams to support service delivery.
Driving duties (as required)
  • Transport sterile instruments and equipment between hospital sites or departments.
  • Ensure safe handling and secure delivery of items in line with HB policies.

  • Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) Technical Certificate OR Vocational Level 3 Decontamination OR equivalent level of knowledge, work experience and skills within a decontamination role.
  • Some knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
  • Previous experience in Sterile Services.
Desirable
  • Familiar with ISO
    13485:2016 and UKMDR 2002 (as amended).
  • Welsh Language Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3 or above.
  • Working in a clean room environment.
  • Work involving visual inspection and packaging.
