Contract Interaction Designer (Public Sector / GDS Experience)

UK (Remote / Hybrid options)

We’re looking for an experienced Contract Interaction Designer with strong UK public sector and GDS experience to design clear, usable, and accessible digital interactions for government services.

You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, shaping how users interact with services across discovery, alpha, beta, and live phases, while ensuring designs meet the GDS Service Standard and government design principles.

• Design intuitive, user‑centred interactions for complex public sector services
• Create and iterate user flows, wireframes, and prototypes
• Apply the Design System and interaction design patterns appropriately
• Collaborate closely with user researchers, service designers, content designers, product managers, and developers
• Use research and usability testing to inform and validate design decisions
• Champion accessibility and inclusive design, ensuring compliance with WCAG standards
• Clearly communicate interaction design rationale to a range of stakeholders
• Support teams through GDS service assessments with strong interaction design evidence
• Proven experience as an Interaction Designer within UK Government or GDS‑aligned organisations
• Strong understanding of the GDS Service Standard and  Design System
• Experience designing services across the full delivery lifecycle
• Confident working in agile, multidisciplinary teams
• Strong prototyping skills using tools such as Figma or similar
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience working on large-scale or high-volume public services
• Familiarity with accessibility testing and inclusive design practices
• Previous involvement in successful GDS service assessments
