Position

HGV Driver – Bank Position

Employer

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP)

Location

South Wales (Cardiff, Bridgend, Newport). The service covers all Wales.

Type of Position

Bank – flexible hours, no guaranteed hours. This is not a permanent role.

Salary

Band 3 – adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award 2026/27, effective from 01 April 2026 (backdated to August 2026).

Responsibilities
  • Transport and deliver over 120,000 items of mail/medical notes per week to clinics, labs and health centres.
  • Collect and transport in excess of 5 million movements of blood product and pathology samples per year.
  • Operate within Accord Dangereux Routier and Good Manufacturing Practice legislation.
  • Provide services between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday, with occasional 24‑hour support.
  • Work safely and efficiently in a high‑volume courier environment.
Qualifications
  • Full driving licence, HGV Category C licence and CPC certificate.
  • Experience driving vans or light commercial vehicles.
  • Good communication skills with customers and NHS contacts.
  • Basic understanding of Moving and Handling techniques, health and safety risks.
Desirable Criteria
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
  • Spoken Welsh is desirable.
Person Specification

The postholder will access vulnerable people and will be subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Disclosure and Barring Service checks will be required.
