Joint Deputy Head of Adult Services

This newly created joint post sits across Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen councils, leading adult social work and care management in four long-term locality teams that span both authorities. The work covers professional practice, quality assurance, safeguarding, transformation, performance and financial management. It is distinct for its federated model and close working with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Social Care Wales.

Fit depends on being a qualified social work practitioner with substantial management experience and strong knowledge of Welsh adult social care legislation.

• Lead adult social work and care management across four locality teams spanning both councils
• Oversee professional practice and consistent ways of working across both councils
• Lead quality assurance and safeguarding
• Lead transformation work
• Oversee performance and financial management
• Support established managers through change
• Ensure services remain responsive to differing patterns of need
• Develop the vision for a federated service delivering safe, consistent, high-quality support
• Work with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Social Care Wales, regulators, elected members and community partners
• Champion prevention, co-production and integrated approaches
• Plan sustainable support to meet future demand
