An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Critical Care Unit (ITU/HDU) at the Princess of Wales Hospital. We are looking to recruit a Senior Staff Nurse - Deputy Ward Manager/Sister/Charge Nurse at Band 6.
The Critical Care Unit at the Princess of Wales Hospital is an 8‑bedded unit providing integrated level 2 and 3 care to a wide cohort of patients including Surgical, Medical, Renal, Gynaecology, Trauma Orthopaedics and Maternity. We also care for critically ill patients requiring stabilisation before transfer to regional services.
The post holder will be required to ensure the highest standard of patient‑centred care, reflecting the high‑quality standards and values and behaviours of the University Health Board, and contribute to the implementation of policies and procedures within their sphere of responsibility.
The post holder will provide clinical care to acutely ill patients and support staff development. They will also be responsible for guidance, supervision and management of the day‑to‑day running of the department when required to deputise for the Band 7.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, highly motivated and caring individual with proven critical care knowledge and skills.
This position will allow the successful candidates to join our existing established and highly motivated team of experienced critical care nurses in providing high quality and professional services for critically ill adult patients.
Responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the smooth running of the service.
- Be self‑motivated and innovative.
- Ensure high standards of patient‑centred care are maintained.
The post holder will need exceptional interpersonal, communication, decision making and organisational skills, along with stamina and flexibility to meet the demands of the role and the flexible working pattern.
The post holder will have significant experience in Critical Care, successfully completed the CC3N Step Competencies Level 3 or equivalent, and be in possession of a recognised critical care course.
Welsh Skills DesirableThis post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This does not mean essential; while the candidate doesn’t need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
