Family Support Worker

Hours: Full‑time (40 h per week) or Part‑time (23 h / 34.5 h per week)

Salary: £13.50 – £13.75 per hour

Shift Pattern: Days: 7 am – 7:30 pm;
Nights: 7 pm – 7:30 am; weekends available

Overview

Ty Seren is a Residential Family Centre based in Bridgend, South Wales, supporting up to 10 families at any one time where there are concerns about a parent’s ability to care for their child. Placements last 14 weeks and include a programme of teaching and assessment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Promote the Service’s mission, objectives, vision and values, internally and externally, and comply with all policies, procedures, guidance and legislation.
  • Share relevant information, listen to, follow directions and ensure all allocated duties are completed as requested.
  • If tasks cannot be completed, hand them over to the Shift Coordinator with a clear rationale.
  • Support each family within the Service in line with assessed needs, as directed by the Shift Coordinator, 2nd Senior and/or Multi‑Disciplinary Team.
  • Assist parents to meet their children’s developing needs, covering all aspects of parenting and independent living skills.
  • Accompany families in the Service and within the community when required.
  • Build positive working relationships with family members through a calm, caring yet assertive approach.
  • Ensure the voices, views and choices of families are sought and represented, raising concerns or complaints with Management.
  • Keep accurate, complete, and timely records of family observations and interactions.
  • Assess families during formal assessment sessions, supported by the MDT, and report safeguarding concerns following national, local and service procedures for children and adults at risk.
  • Attend and give evidence at Family Court when required.
  • Undertake any other tasks delegated by the Shift Coordinator or 2nd Senior.
  • Assist with cleaning and infection control duties within the Service.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience working with vulnerable adults and/or children in the UK.
  • Must be over 21 years of age and eligible to work in the UK; no sponsorship required.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including days, nights and weekends.
  • Currently pursuing or willing to work towards QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or City & Guilds Level 2 & 3 Health & Social Care (Children & Young People).
  • Willing to register with Social Care Wales and complete the All Wales Induction Framework (AWIF) during probation.
  • Demonstrable understanding of confidentiality and personal information disclosure.
  • High standard of numeric and literacy skills for accurate record‑keeping.
  • Effective administration and IT skills; experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • Willingness to clean and undertake infection control duties.
