  • Ensure daily vehicle defect reports are completed and any issues are rectified promptly.

  • Maintain compliance with Operator Licence requirements, statutory inspections and vehicle maintenance regulations.

  • Monitor fleet performance, maintenance costs and downtime, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce expenditure.

  • Build strong relationships with suppliers to secure value for money on tyres, maintenance and fleet services.

Driver Team Management
  • Lead, recruit and develop a team of drivers ranging from apprentices through to Class 1 HGV drivers.

  • Manage holiday planning, absence management, inductions and workforce requirements.

  • Monitor individual and team performance, setting clear objectives and supporting continuous improvement.

  • Deliver regular training, toolbox talks and driver appraisals.

  • Manage performance and disciplinary matters in conjunction with HR.

  • Promote a positive team culture built around ambition, commitment and care.

Operational Performance & Service Delivery
  • Monitor driver performance, service levels and key operational KPIs.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents and service failures, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration between the day and night driver teams and other departments.

  • Monitor driver hours, tachograph compliance, training records and certifications.

  • Champion health and safety, ensuring drivers follow company procedures and industry best practice.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce avoidable costs, minimise wastage and improve overall operational performance.

What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience in fleet management, transport operations or a similar leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of HGV fleet maintenance, vehicle compliance and Operator Licence requirements.

  • Experience managing and developing a team of drivers.

  • Understanding of drivers' hours regulations and tachograph compliance.

  • Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience monitoring budgets, controlling costs and improving operational KPIs.

  • A hands-on leadership style, with the ability to motivate teams and drive high standards.

  • A strong commitment to health and safety, compliance and customer service.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport or fleet professional to take ownership of a key operational function within an established transport business.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence fleet performance, develop a high-performing driver team and make a real difference to service delivery, safety and commercial results.

Salary: £38,000 per annum.
