Job Description & How to Apply Below

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Digital Animator to join our dynamic Marketing team. This role will bring our robots to life through stunning, technically-sound animation that showcases their movement, capability, and personality. The ideal candidate is both a creative visual storyteller and a technically savvy animator with a deep understanding of how to work with complex 3D rigs—particularly for mechanical systems like humanoid and quadruped robots.

This person will play a key role in producing animations and visual content for use across product launches, social media, web, branded storytelling, and live performances. You’ll collaborate closely with Marketing, Engineering, and Product teams to ensure animations are accurate, compelling, and aligned with brand tone.

Responsibilities
  • Create high-quality animation content with in house software for robot performances, dances, emotes, customer animation-as-a-service packages, and general marketing usage.
  • Generate timelines, animatics, graphics, layout maps, and any other assets to help visualize project scope and development, plus help conduct reliability robustness testing.
  • Work closely with the Creative Director, Product Marketing, and Engineering to translate real robot behaviors into engaging and realistic animations for digital and video content across channels (web, social, events, etc.).
  • Leverage internal and external tools (including robot models and motion data) to create both stylized and accurate movement.
  • Support storytelling around new product features, software capabilities, and use cases.
  • Optimize & streamline creative process for building animated content across various platforms, ensuring visual consistency and technical performance.
  • Maintain an organized animation pipeline that supports version control, feedback loops, and rapid iteration.
  • Occasionally assist with motion graphics or visual effects for broader marketing campaigns.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, Digital Media, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience in digital animation, ideally within a tech, robotics, gaming, or product-centric environment.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing both character and mechanical animation; robotic or procedural animation is a big plus.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, or equivalent. Familiarity with Unity, Unreal Engine, or ROS-based visualizers a strong advantage.
  • Experience working with motion capture data, FBX files, and skeletal rigs.
  • A technical mindset with comfort working with engineers and robot telemetry or simulation data.
  • Strong storytelling instincts, with a passion for making complex systems approachable and engaging.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel when required for animation project execution
Nice to Have
  • Experience animating humanoid movement or biomechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of rigging and working with engineering teams on model integration.
  • Interest or background in robotics, biomechanics, or machine learning visualization.
