Job Summary

Provides exceptional patient care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other physicians to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. Cultivates a patient‑centric environment which focuses on the whole individual, inclusive of physical, psychosocial, spiritual and functional needs of the patient, family and significant others. Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care within scope of practice standards and specialty‑specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care
    • The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) implements accurate, safe, patient‑centric anesthetic care.
  • Professional Skill
    • Understands physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures, constantly monitors vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines.
  • Information Management
    • Ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements, protecting information from unauthorized access, modification, destruction or disclosure.
  • Quality Management
    • Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion and commitment to patient care.
  • Professional Development
    • Continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.
Schedule Requirements

Full‑time position with in‑house call responsibilities, including off‑shifts, weekends, and holidays. Availability to respond to emergency calls and provide anesthesia services within the hospital setting. Must give 90‑day notice when transitioning or resigning from the call team.

Qualifications

Education
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Completion of a certified nurse anesthetist training program. Graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia educational program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and CAEP. Current state of Connecticut nursing license (APRN).

Experience
Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line; not required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs must be appointed to the affiliated medical staff and credentialed through the medical staff process, with evidence of current competence via reference letters.

Licensure
AANA Certification; state of CT RN and APRN license; ACLS, DEA registration; state of CT controlled substance registration.

Special Skills
Sharp concentration, calm under stress, effective communication with surgeons, surgical support team, patients and families. Immediate, responsive anesthetic patient management; flexibility and adaptability.

Physical Demand
Intellectual‑conceptual, integrative and quantitative abilities; observation, communication, motor functions; mature behavioral and social attributes. Must be able to detect and interpret changes in monitoring alarms; functional vision and hearing; no impairment of smell or tactile sensation. Must stand for long periods, wear lead as needed, lift 25 lbs, move patients between locations, coordinate fine and gross motor movements.
