Performs a full range of screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations
  • Completion of a two‑year American Medical Association approved course in Radiologic Technology or other accredited and approved medical imaging program.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Certification in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within 18 months of hire.
  • Radiology Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • ARRT Certification in Mammography upon hire.
  • CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan the performance of the imaging procedure based on needs of the patient (to include all exams within job scope).
  • Work to continually develop skill sets and become competent in ALL exams within job scope defined by leadership.
  • Maintain an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
  • Position and compress the patient accurately for procedure and fully image all breast tissue.
  • Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.
  • Evaluate images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression and absence of image artifact. Assure proper patient identification appears on every image.
  • Educate patient regarding mammographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  • Document imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.
  • Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical and support personnel throughout the hospital.
  • Perform a full range of mammographic imaging quality control tests in accordance with the manufacturer and document them in the Mammography Quality Control Track module.
  • Display imaging techniques, patient care and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, administrative policies and procedures, radiology department policies, mammography, state and federal regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Report equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Maintain clean, neat and well stocked procedure area.
  • Prepare contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals and sterile trays and devices for invasive mammographic procedures.
  • Maintain MQSA compliance.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day.
  • Lift, push and pull up to 10 pounds of weight.
  • Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; airborne particles; body fluids; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.
