ABOUT THE CLUB
Pete Dye Golf Club of Bridgeport, WV, is proud to be considered among the country’s finest golf courses, ranking perennially on various “top 100” lists. Legendary designer Pete Dye called it “18 of the most exciting holes I ever built on one course.” The Club is home to West Virginia University Men’s Golf Team and hosts an annual collegiate event in April, which features teams from around the country.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant‑In‑Training reports to the Golf Course Superintendent, Lead Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and oversees all activities and programs related to the Turf Care Operation. Direct reports of this position include Spray Technician, Irrigation Technician, Equipment Operators, and Turf Care Technicians. Responsibilities include but are not restricted to:
- Daily course setup and scouting
- Personnel coordination and data collection
- Employee safety and standardization of training programs
- Chemical and Fertilizer applications/calibration/record keeping
- Irrigation scheduling and coordination of maintenance and repair needs
- Daily playing surface moisture management
The appropriate candidate will be self‑motivated, well organized, dedicated, detail oriented and appreciate the importance of working in a team environment. He or she should demonstrate proficiency managing one’s own time and responsibilities while providing a positive example in the work environment. Must have the ability to lift, push or pull up to 50lbs. on a consistent basis. Any familiarity with the Spanish language is advantageous but not required.
This opportunity will provide the full range of abilities as well as the confidence to pursue a position of assistant golf course superintendent, providing knowledge in maintaining championship quality conditions on a daily basis in the Mid‑Atlantic region.
