What You’ll Do- The Correctional Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) delivers hemodialysis treatment, providing safe, high-quality care in accordance with state law.
- Utilizes assessment, technical, documentation, collaborative, and leadership skills daily; acts as a resource for staff.
- Bridgeton, NJ within South Woods State Prison
- Graduation from an accredited nursing school or equivalent.
- Current RN License for New Jersey and current CPR certification (or within three months of hire).
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.
- One year of Hemodialysis RN experience is required (two to three years preferred). Experience must be within the past two years.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and satisfactorily communicate in English.
- Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Understand renal function and consequences of renal failure; observe and document patient responses; perform thorough patient assessments and communicate with the nurse in charge.
- Recognize changes in patients on dialysis and adjust therapy; respond to emergencies and notify the nephrologist when necessary.
- Set priorities for patient care; develop and adjust care plans with the patient, family, nurses, technicians, nephrologists, physicians, and dietitian.
- Provide clear communication and act as a liaison among staff and patients; document thoroughly; verify orders during treatment.
- Perform unit operations including setup, water checks, machine cleaning, and other duties as directed; administer medications as ordered and educate on safe dosing and side effects.
- Obtain laboratory specimens, interpret results in relation to ESRD, and consult with dietitian/nephrologist as needed.
- Delegate appropriately and participate in the unit's Quality Assurance Program and infection control practices.
- Participate in CPR, promote a safe and collaborative work environment, and support unit projects and improvement efforts.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional competence; participate in continuing education.
- Prepare daily dialysis logs, lab reports, and supplies; maintain a clean environment; maintain regular attendance and adhere to company policies.
- This position reports to the Unit Leader.
The Department of Corrections/Federal Bureau of Prisons and all applicable law require a comprehensive background check for all employees in this position. The background check will be conducted after an offer is made.
Work EnvironmentThis role exists in a hospital or medical unit of a post-acute or correctional facility and may involve exposure to chemicals and blood-borne pathogens. Remote work is not possible.
Physical DemandsRegularly requires talking and listening; standing, bending, walking, twisting, crouching, and reaching. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Visual requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The schedule may range from five to fifteen hours per day based on unit needs.
