Posting SummaryRutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a per‑diem staff nurse for the Southwoods State Prison located in Bridgeton, NJ. The role focuses on ambulatory care for inmates of the New Jersey Department of Corrections.
Responsibilities- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of residents, including adolescents (13‑17 years), adults (18‑64 years) and their families.
- Perform assessments in settings such as initial intake, sick‑call, housing emergencies, chronic‑care clinics and infirmary.
- Collaborate with health‑care professionals and security officers within a correctional environment.
- Identify inmate‑centered goals and nursing objectives; implement interventions and solutions for identified problems.
- Plan nursing care based on needs identified in assessments; make referrals and initiate care in accordance with institutional policies.
- As charge nurse or team leader, delegate duties to team members and guide care provision.
Pay: $59.01 per hour (FLSA Non‑exempt, Grade 99H). Salary may be adjusted based on candidate qualifications, experience, and department or grant funds.

- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- CPR certification
- License to practice in the State of New Jersey
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the site
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting
Must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and lift or carry an emergency treatment bag that may weigh up to 45 pounds. Able to assist in lifting and rotating patients weighing up to 50 pounds.
Special ConditionsMust be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
