Job Description
Harbour Development specializes in all aspects of marine construction and dredging throughout Atlantic Canada. We operate a fleet of dredges, barges, shallow draft workboats, tugboats, cranes, and dump scows.
We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Dredge Superintendent.
Responsibilities- Provide safety leadership and perform safely on all projects and in compliance with environmental requirements. Advance the company’s safety initiatives, conduct safety audits, liaise with the JOHS committee, and coordinate training.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of vessel systems and determine procedures for maintenance, installation, modification, and repair of electrical and instrumentation assets.
- Ensure all work aligns with company standards, technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and project schedules.
- Support operational continuity by identifying and resolving issues that may impact productivity or safety.
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset regarding productivity, quality, and safety.
- Maintain a record of spare parts used and report to the Operations Team Lead.
- Fully understand, comply, and lead by example Harbour Development’s Safety Management System and related procedures.
- Contribute to Harbour Development’s safety culture by:
- Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System.
- Possess the skills to perform job related tasks and apply safe practices while performing physical tasks.
- Have a thorough understanding of precautions and procedures related to the Safety Management System.
- Have thorough understanding of pollution regulations and the company’s objectives regarding environmental protection.
- Trade Certificate or College Diploma.
- 4 – 7 years’ experience in Marine Operations.
- Strong safety leadership skills and safety record.
- Ability to take the initiative, work independently, make decisions, and develop recommendations.
- Marine Emergency Duties certification.
- Transport Canada Marine Medical certification.
- H2S Alive certification.
- Marine First Aid and CPR certification.
- WHMIS certification.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (TDG).
- Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities.
