Position OverviewHospitals are dynamic, fast-paced environments where safety and empathy must go hand in hand. In this role, you will be a vital presence at South Shore Regional Hospital, a designated district trauma centre providing essential medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetrics, and mental health services to the Bridgewater community. Your primary purpose is to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and healthcare staff during what can often be stressful times.

What Success Looks LikeOn a day-to-day basis, success means being a visible, reassuring presence. You will manage access to restricted areas, conduct thorough patrols of the hospital grounds and parking facilities, and respond swiftly to alarms or emergencies. Because you are often the first point of contact for people entering the facility, success also relies heavily on your customer service skills—providing clear directions, de‑escalating tense situations with patience, and enforcing hospital policies respectfully.
Over time, you will build strong trust with the clinical and medical staff, becoming a reliable partner they can depend on during critical incidents. You will work a rotational schedule of 12-hour shifts and ), requiring adaptability, alertness, and consistent professional judgment across both day and night shifts.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular foot patrols of interior hallways, patient areas, entrances, exits, and exterior parking lots to deter security incidents and safety hazards.
- De-escalate and Resolve Conflicts: Use verbal de‑escalation techniques to calm tense situations, manage aggressive behavior, and resolve conflicts professionally.
- Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly and calmly during crisis situations, medical emergencies, fire alarms, or evacuations, coordinating closely with clinical staff and emergency services.
- Control Access: Monitor entry points and surveillance systems to ensure only authorized personnel access restricted clinical and administrative areas.
- Assist Visitors and Staff: Provide clear directions, general information, and customer service to patients, visitors, and hospital employees.
- Document and Report: Write clear, objective, and detailed reports regarding daily activities, safety hazards, and security incidents.
- First Aid Certification: A valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR Level C certificate from a CSA-approved provider.
- Security Licensing: The ability to obtain a provincial security guard license for Nova Scotia. (We will cover the licensing costs).

Skills:
Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required for accurate report writing and effective communication during emergencies. - Key Specialized
Certifications:
Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) certifications are required before starting. If you do not currently hold these certifications, you can complete them through our company-sponsored training program prior to onboarding. While the training hours are unpaid, we cover all course costs in exchange for a 6-month commitment to the position.
- Prior experience in security, healthcare security, law enforcement, customer service, or a related field.
- The flexibility and ability to travel for occasional coverage shifts at nearby regional hospitals, such as those in Lunenburg and Liverpool.
