The School of Social Work offers BSW and MSW programs, serving 500 students with 16 full‑time faculty and over 280 internships across southeastern Massachusetts and beyond.
Position SummaryThe Administrative Assistant I is one of three administrative staff members in the School of Social Work. This position provides support to the Associate Dean, Department Chair, program coordinators, and faculty. Tasks include logistics for events, communication to social work students in both programs, and assist in developing templates and establishing templates that result in more efficiency in our administrative tasks.
This professional role requires strong customer service skills, the ability to multitask, and the comfort working independently in a fast‑paced environment. Responsibilities include scheduling, event coordination, data tracking, developing forms, website updates, and assisting with reaccreditation processes. The position reports to the Associate Dean and collaborates closely with other administrative assistants.
This is a full‑time, 12‑month, AFSCME position. Tour of Duty: 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (Saturday and Sunday as days off).
Subject to change. This position may be eligible for hybrid work in accordance with BSU remote work policy.
This is an AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Administrative & Office Management- Welcome students and guests.
- Assist faculty and staff.
- Order office supplies, new faculty business cards and name tags.
- Manage the School of Social Work calendar, draft the master calendar annually, maintain monthly updates.
- Maintain records and organize files across Teams and Blackboard.
- Access ALCEA, the practicum department database, when required.
- Assist chairperson with scheduling classes.
- Assist Dean with tracking grants.
- Provide support for reaccreditation, including logistics such as collecting documents and preparing self‑studies.
- Support department chairperson, program coordinators, and faculty (when needed) with administrative tasks.
- Assist with faculty/staff searches and onboarding as needed.
- Provide staff support for school events and professional education.
- Assist the associate dean with the Council on Social Work annual statistics.
- Update communication templates.
- Assist with formatting and organizing self‑study documents for reaccreditation.
- Comfort with Teams, Blackboard, Adobe, and willingness to learn new technology skills.
- Schedule and coordinate events (e.g., program orientations), schedule space with university events and order catering.
- Liaison to catering and facilities.
- Work closely with others at the School of Social Work and across university departments as needed to accomplish tasks.
- Work as a team member to assist planning materials for orientations and other functions.
