Position Information

Title
City Lab/Watershed Outreach Educator - FY26

Department Summary
The City Lab and Watershed Access Lab programs offer single-day STEM experiences for elementary, middle, and high school students, both on and off campus. These programs allow students to step into the role of scientists, engaging in hands‑on investigations designed to spark curiosity and build a strong foundation for future scientific exploration. Each module immerses students in science content, encouraging active learning and deeper understanding through real‑world applications.

Position Summary
The City Lab/Watershed Access Lab Outreach Educator will deliver curriculum modules for CASE outreach programs to a variety of participants. Educators will be responsible for teaching background content, guiding participants through laboratory techniques, and instructing on the proper use of scientific instruments. They are also expected to help maintain a safe, organized, and productive laboratory environment. In addition to on‑campus instruction, educators may participate in off‑site field trips, delivering the same curriculum in local schools or outdoor environments such as ponds, streams, rivers, gardens, and parks.

Outreach Educators will work alongside CASE student instructors, who will assist with class activities. Educators may also collaborate with CASE administrators and faculty to develop, refine, align, and pilot new curriculum for various CASE initiatives, including the CASE Science Academy, on‑campus STEM visits, professional development workshops, and traveling outreach programs. This is an ideal role for a recently retired teacher or anyone with K–12 teaching experience looking for flexible, part‑time work.

Schedule & Hours
Work is based on outreach demand. Typical shifts are approximately 5 hours on days with scheduled visits. There is no fixed schedule—shifts vary based on school requests. Educators can work as few as one shift per week, with flexibility in choosing availability.
