Position Description
The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) provides BSU’s diverse student population with the foundation to achieve academic success. The AAC is a welcoming environment that delivers comprehensive student‑centered services, empowering those we serve to explore and develop academic, personal, and self‑advocacy skills.
Peer Advisors are undergraduate students who assist with programs in the AAC, including a significant role in first‑year advising programs.
Responsibilities of Peer Advisors- Provide front line service to students in a friendly and professional manner.
- Offer individual assistance to students on such topics as schedule preparation, using Degree Works, calculating a GPA, the Add/Drop process, and/or learning about campus resources, etc.
- Assist students during Add/Drop and the Registration Clearance period.
- Assist with small and large group advising, and other advising programs and events, as needed.
- Present during small and large group advising programs and in classroom information sessions, as needed.
- Attend all designated trainings and supervision meetings.
- Assist with research, program development, and social media.
- Assist with communications (e‑mail, telephone, mail, flyers, bulletin boards, surveys) and/or publicizing tasks for all programs provided by the AAC.
- Maintain a weekly calendar of appointments, drop‑ins, tasks completed, and concerns regarding students along with any other pertinent information to be shared with the Assistant Director of Academic Advising.
- Record and track data related to peer advising appointments and attendance at Peer Advisor run programs, events, and tables.
- Assist with routine departmental tasks as needed.
- Some evening hours may be required/requested.
- Carry out other tasks and duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Academic Advising.
- Sophomores and Juniors are preferred (but we will consider Freshmen and Seniors)
- Good academic standing
- Expert knowledge of Degree Works, Info Bear, the University Catalog, Core Curriculum requirements, and the registration process
- 6-8 hours of availability per week during the Spring 2026 semester
