Water Quality Specialist at American Water. Posting started 11/4/25. Salary range: $26.00–$42.13 hourly. The base salary range is a good faith estimate; additional incentive pay may apply. Responsible for organizing advanced functions and activities related to environmental management and water quality for assigned facilities. Maintains all applicable lab certifications, accreditations, or approvals for compliance and process quality control. Implements day‑to‑day collection of water quality samples, programs to ensure compliance with regulations, resolves treatment issues, and investigates water quality complaints.

• Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities. Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects.
• Obtain, prepare, file and maintain all regulatory reports and records. Manage required permits and make any necessary modifications and renewals. Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators and customers. Identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations.
• Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment to ensure established standards of performance and accuracy are maintained.
• Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed.
• Investigate and respond to escalated water quality complaints or concerns.

• Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations.
• Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods.
• Understanding of principles of water treatment and ability to troubleshoot systems.

• High School Diploma required, Associate’s Degree preferred.
• 0–2 years experience in water and laboratory operations.
• On‑call responsibilities.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Local and regional travel.

• Work environment:
  Laboratory, indoor/outdoor, production/office environments.
• Reports to office Monday–Friday at 100 Pulhenus Lane Bridgewater.
• Key interfaces with Water Quality Supervisor or higher management, Production Department, Field Services, State Regulators, FRCC, Alton Call Center, customers.
• Required physical ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods, lift 35 lbs, stairs required, distinguish colors for testing.
