Virtualization and Server Administrator

Job Description:

The Virtualization and Server Administrator is responsible for advanced administration, design, build, implementation, and support of server environments, including VMware vSphere-hosted virtual machines, Citrix Xen App farms, and physical Windows servers.

This position also provides support for UNIX and LINUX server environments, disk storage systems, backup/restore environments, and local area network/wireless network communications equipment to effectively support Life Cell’s network and server operations.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Manage and administer Server Virtualization (VMware 4.x & 5.x/Citrix 5.x) and Windows Servers: Build/design VM requirements, manage and perform physical server host and guest OS maintenance, installation, patching, configuration, support, backup/restore, monitoring, trending. Administration of Windows server environments, SAN, disk storage, LVM structures, file systems, SQL Server, system tuning, shell scripting, user account management. (30%)

Provide technical scripting, tooling, and automation: for continuous and efficient operations. (10%)

Participate in activities/projects involving server hardware and disk storage solutions: serve as team representative, handle critical assignments, troubleshooting. (10%)

Operational Server Support: define and implement monitoring procedures, generate performance metrics, recommend hardware/software architectures, maintain documentation. (10%)

Ensure compliance: with policies and procedures in collaboration with Corporate IT. (5%)

Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours duties. (10%)

Generate metrics: to trend disk storage, server performance, network utilization. (5%)

Schedule and monitor backups and operational activities. (10%)

Participate in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and execution. (10%)

Qualifications:

University Degree: BS in computer science or related field.

Experience:

1-3 yrs SAN/NAS, 3-5 yrs VMware/Citrix, SharePoint 2007, Active Directory, Backup/Restore; 5-7 yrs Windows Server, 7-10 yrs Windows Server Admin.
Other skills include extensive experience in VMware, Citrix, SharePoint, SQL, Active Directory, backup/restore, and disaster recovery concepts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Data Center Virtualization, SAN, NAS, Citrix technologies, SharePoint 2007, scripting, performance monitoring, and supporting Citrix Metaframe. Strong communication, troubleshooting, and multitasking skills. Minimum 3 years Unix/Linux, disk storage, SAN, backup/restore administration experience.
