Posted Rate: $34.21/hr (eligible for incentive pay as per collective bargaining agreement)

Key Accountabilities
  • Operations: Daily activities include but are not limited to:
    • Receipt of chemical deliveries.
    • Record keeping (equipment run hours, chemical inventories & dosages).
    • Operate communication equipment (telephones, 2‑way radios, cell phones).
    • Operation of chemical feed equipment (remote & local manual).
    • Conduct safety & security inspections; resolve or report unsafe conditions immediately.
    • Chemical transfers.
    • Chemical adjustments for process control.
    • Operate low service pumps with electric and diesel motors.
    • Operate traveling screens.
  • Maintenance: Daily activities include but are not limited to:
    • Chemical feed pump calibration checks.
    • Inspection of all water treatment equipment during shift.
    • Complete work orders via the computer‑based maintenance system.
    • Backflush sample pumps.
  • Laboratory Procedure: Daily activities include but are not limited to:
    • Hourly laboratory testing (pH, turbidity, chloride, odor, color, alkalinity, fluoride).
    • Water sampling for bacteriological, DBP, VOC, SOC, nutrient & metals analysis.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Basic mathematical, algebraic & statistical calculations using a scientific calculator.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Make operational decisions based on SCADA, observations & sample testing.
  • Customer‑service focused.
Knowledge
  • In‑depth knowledge of company policies, procedures, safety practices and state/federal regulations (arc flash, confined spaces, trenching, shoring, competent person responsibilities).
  • Must possess or obtain 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification and complete annual 8‑hour refresher; capable of emergency response.
  • Must possess or obtain certifications for confined space entry, Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash programs.
  • Understand all federal & state environmental & drinking water regulations related to job duties.
  • Inspect and use a respirator & SCBA.
  • Clean shaven at all times while on duty.
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Capability to operate company equipment and vehicles necessary for job responsibilities.
Travel Requirements
  • Routine local travel.
Work Environment
  • Rotating shifts (days, afternoons, overnight) including holidays & weekends.
  • Remain at position until relieved by a trained Low Lift Operator, OMM or Supervisor.
  • Verbally convey operating conditions/status and special instructions during shift changes.
  • Record supervisor instructions, operating notes & job information in the logbook.
  • Work safely and productively at all times.
  • Perform any task within capability based on experience, knowledge, qualifications & training.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Sit in a chair or stand for extended periods.
    • Walk short & long distances.
    • Climb stairs, ladders or scaffolding.
    • Lift 50 lbs unassisted.
    • Wear respirator for up to 16 hours.
    • Medical clearance for respirator required annually.
    • Don/doff and use SCBA or supplied‑air system up to 30 min.
    • Wear PPE for up to 16 hours.
    • Identify colors red, yellow, green & magenta.
    • Manipulate switches, dials, knobs, hand wheels & levers.
  • Maintain professional appearance & demeanor.
Certifications & Licenses
  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • NJ DEP T‑2 license required (T‑1 license may be obtained within 3 years, followed by T‑2 within 3 years; cumulative 6 years).
  • Recertify licenses as required.
  • Failure to obtain or maintain license results in displacement from position.
