Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.

About the Project

The Area Construction Lead will be responsible for planning and integrating all aspects of the safe delivery, both in an industrial and nuclear safety context, of a significant geographical area of works on the Hinkley Point C project, ensuring the responsibilities of the principal contractor are achieved.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that detailed plans are developed to a facility and/or area basis which integrate, coordinate, and sequence work activities to achieve the optimum construction sequence, paying particular attention to contractor interfaces.
  • Enabling the project construction activities to comply with our established processes and procedures and licensing conditions.
  • Looking ahead to identify risks and developing mitigating options in sufficient time to prevent a negative impact on the construction site performance.
  • Implementing cross‑cutting reviews of work scope where the interfaces in areas are intersected by many different contractors.
  • Ensuring that conventional and nuclear safety considerations are recognised as essential to the success of the project and built into the planning processes.
  • Developing a plan which clearly identifies site need dates for critical equipment and materials and implementing monitoring processes to give early warning of any threat or risk to meeting the need dates and developing mitigating actions in time to avoid any impacts to site activities.
  • Developing detailed access routes for personnel and equipment, identifying suitability of the access routes, impacts to other work activities and identifying temporary access openings for equipment installation.
  • Implementing a construction build philosophy that recognises the key approach of design by system, maximizing productivity by bulk area build and transitioning to system completion for turnover.
  • Integrating the supply chain partners’ resources to maximise their expertise and skill set when developing the schedule and construction strategies to ensure schedule ownership and best practice implementation.
  • Liaising with the Construction Planning team and multi‑disciplinary teams to advise of any issues that come to light that should be addressed contractually such as issuing required notices and matters relating to changes/variations.
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of civil design, construction delivery and multi‑discipline integration.
  • Experience across EPC contracts, particularly NEC and FIDIC frameworks.
  • Delivery-focused with expertise in planning, sequencing and resolving complex interfaces.
  • Proven track record delivering large‑scale projects to quality, cost and schedule.
  • Commercial awareness, strong reporting and understanding of CDM regulations.
  • Degree-qualified engineer with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
