Quantum Scholars are looking for caring, reliable and experienced Secondary English and Maths Tutors to support secondary‑aged children and young people in and around Bridgwater, Somerset.
This is an in‑person tuition role. Tuition will take place in the young person’s home and/or a suitable community setting, depending on the individual referral. Applicants must be able to travel to Bridgwater and the surrounding areas.
We work with pupils who may be educated other than at school, awaiting a suitable placement, or in need of additional personalised support. Tuition is usually delivered on a 1:1 basis and is tailored to the needs, ability and circumstances of each young person.
We are particularly interested in tutors who can support English and/or Maths and who can provide a calm, flexible and young‑person‑centred approach. The successful tutor will be able to build positive relationships, adapt learning to meet individual needs, and deliver engaging sessions that support confidence, progress and re‑engagement with education.
Role Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 in‑person tuition for secondary‑aged pupils in and around Bridgwater
- Deliver English and/or Maths support tailored to the pupil’s needs
- Travel to pupils’ homes and/or suitable community settings
- Plan and deliver personalised learning activities
- Support core literacy, numeracy, subject knowledge and confidence
- Help pupils re‑engage with education at a pace that is right for them
- Adapt sessions to suit each young person’s needs, ability and emotional readiness
- Support pupils who may have SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, EBSA, or gaps in education
- Work professionally with parents/carers and relevant professionals
- Keep brief records of session content, attendance, engagement and progress
- Experience working with secondary‑aged pupils
- Strong subject knowledge in English and/or Maths
- A patient, encouraging and flexible approach
- The ability to plan engaging, personalised learning sessions
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and supporting positive outcomes for young people
- The ability to travel to in‑person tuition sessions in and around Bridgwater
- The legal right to work in the UK
- Applicants must have or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS certificate and provide suitable references
Qualified Teacher Status would be highly desirable, particularly for referrals requiring a qualified teacher. We also welcome applications from experienced tutors, instructors or education professionals with strong English and/or Maths subject knowledge and relevant experience.
