What

does a Flexible Teaching Assistant do?

Every day can look different! You could find yourself supporting children in a primary classroom one day, working with young people in a secondary school the next, or gaining experience within a specialist SEND setting.

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis
  • Working with small groups of children and young people
  • Helping pupils access their learning and participate in classroom activities
  • Supporting children with SEND and additional needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence and independence
  • Providing social and emotional support where needed
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and school staff
  • Helping to create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment

We work with a variety of schools and regularly have opportunities for day-to-day cover, longer-term placements and more permanent positions, allowing you to gain experience before deciding on your next career move.

Teaching Assistant roles commonly involve helping pupils individually, in groups or alongside the wider class under the direction of the teacher, making this an excellent way to develop a broad understanding of working in education.

Why choose flexible work?
  • Choose when you work – tell us the days you are available
  • School hours only – keep your evenings and weekends free
  • Work around your responsibilities – ideal for parents, students and those with other commitments
  • Gain experience – work across different schools, age groups and educational settings
  • Build your confidence – develop valuable skills in behaviour support, communication and classroom practice
  • Explore different career paths – fantastic experience for those considering teaching, psychology, youth work or other child-focused careers
  • Open doors to permanent work – flexible placements can help you build experience and discover the type of school or role that suits you
