About the role:
Working closely with the Site HSE Manager and as part of the wider site HSE team, you will provide professional, practical health & safety support to operational managers, engineers and colleagues across production, warehousing, engineering and support functions. You will play a key role in supporting legal compliance, reducing risk and helping to build a strong, positive safety culture where safe systems of work are understood, embedded and consistently applied.
We are actively pursuing safety excellence and developing the site as an exemplar within the wider Refresco business. This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide competent health & safety advice and support to managers, engineers and operational teams across the site
- Support compliance with UK H&S legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and Refresco standards
- Assist in the development, implementation and review of H&S management system documentation, including ISO 45001 requirements
- Support operational and engineering teams with the development and review of risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work
- Provide guidance on high‑risk activities including machinery safety, LOTO and isolations, confined spaces, work at height, contractor activities and DSEAR‑related risks
- Promote effective hazard identification and risk control through regular engagement on the shop floor
- Carry out planned health and safety inspections, audits and safety tours across production, warehousing and engineering areas
- Monitor compliance with site procedures and legal requirements, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
- Support corrective action tracking and verification of close‑out
- Support the reporting, investigation and analysis of accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions
- Assist with root cause analysis and the development of effective corrective and preventive actions
- Promote learning from incidents and near misses through clear communication and engagement
- Support the delivery of H&S training, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
- Actively engage with colleagues to promote positive safety behaviours and a strong safety culture
- Support site safety initiatives, campaigns and continuous improvement activities
- Support contractor and third‑party H&S, including inductions, risk assessment review and monitoring of on‑site activities
- Assist in ensuring contractors comply with site rules, permits and safe systems of work
- Assist with the collection and analysis of health and safety performance data, including KPIs and Key Risk Indicators
- Support the preparation of health and safety reports as required
About you:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Level 3 qualification in occupational health and safety
- Experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment
- Practical experience supporting risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Experience supporting accident and near‑miss investigations
- Good working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and HSE guidance
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels
- A practical, solutions‑focused approach and the ability to influence and challenge constructively
