Hinkley Point C is one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Europe - a multi‑billion‑pound nuclear new build that will power six million homes for decades to come.
About the ProjectWe are recruiting experienced Welding Inspectors / Field Engineers to join the Quality Surveillance team on site in Somerset.
ScopeIf you have worked on large‑scale infrastructure - Water & Wastewater, Energy from Waste, Biomass, Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, Chemical, Oil & Gas, Nuclear or major Industrial Construction - and you understand welding from a metallurgy, NDT and standards perspective, this is your opportunity to apply that expertise on a truly safety‑critical project.
What does the role entail?This is not just inspection. This is engineering assurance in a nuclear safety environment.
Responsibilities- Perform continuous, notified and planned surveillance of contractor activities
- Ensure works are constructed in accordance with the authorised Quality Control Plans
- Identify and elevate non‑conformance requirements
- Contribute to KPIs and proactive quality improvement
- Review Inspection & Test Plans and Quality Inspection Records
- Ensure no "field decisions" bypass formal design approval processes
- Embed and advocate Nuclear Safety Culture across all activities
- Work closely with Construction Superintendents and cross‑discipline site teams
You will be the technical conscience of welding quality on site.
What you will be looking at- Structural steel
- Pressure systems
- Reinforcement cage prefabrication
- Civil/mechanical interfaces
- Safety critical fabrication environments
We're keen to speak with candidates who have:
- Experience inspecting welding on large industrial or infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, welding processes and NDT principles
- Working knowledge of codes such as RCC‑M, BS EN, ASME
- Experience with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), End of Erection Status Reports and quality documentation
- A track record of working within structured, high‑compliance environments
- CSWIP 3.1 (or equivalent) – strongly desirable
- CSWIP 3.2 / IWS – advantageous
- PCN or equivalent NDT qualification – advantageous
- Mechanical Engineering / Materials / Welding background
- You must be comfortable in high‑pressure environments where quality, traceability and safety are non‑negotiable.
