Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with Fayat Lifting, a leading lifting and engineering specialist supporting the Hinkley Point C project, to recruit an Appointed Person / Mechanical Design Engineer for its Bridgwater, Somerset site.
The Appointed Person / Mechanical Design Engineer role comes with a competitive salary up to £70,000, tax free accomodation allowance of £17,000, and the opportunity to work on one of the UK's largest nuclear infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities and duties of the Appointed Person / Mechanical Design Engineer roleReporting to the Construction Manager, you will:
- Produce detailed lifting plans using Solid Works, AutoCAD and CAD software.
- Act as a qualified CPCS Appointed Person, ensuring all lifting operations comply with LOLER, HPC lifting standards and site safety requirements.
- Develop installation procedures, method statements and task-specific risk assessments.
- Design temporary works to support lifting and installation activities.
- Supervise the technical aspects of site works and brief lifting teams on approved lift plans.
- Coordinate technical queries with NNB Gen Co, Responsible Designers and client representatives.
- Support quality documentation, including Field Change Requests (FCRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Maintain and update as-built documentation and engineering drawings.
- Promote a strong nuclear safety culture across all lifting operations.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- CPCS A61 Appointed Person qualification (essential).
- Proven experience producing lifting plans using CAD software such as Solid Works and/or AutoCAD.
- At least three years' experience within lifting operations and engineering design.
- Experience with in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of LOLER regulations, lifting standards and safe systems of work.
- Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
- Technically competent with excellent engineering judgement.
- Experienced in solving complex lifting and design challenges.
- Organised and able to produce high-quality technical documentation.
- Confident communicating with clients, designers and site teams.
- Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
