- Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
- Bakery or deli experience.
- Retail experience.
- Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples and inform customers of specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes.
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers.
- Use all equipment (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipes.
- Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients.
- Check product quality and review sell‑by dates.
- Properly use kitchen equipment (stove, scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe).
- Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
- Report ordering / shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand store layout and locate products.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Maintain knowledge of products sold in the department.
- Maintain inventory and report discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Create an environment where customers feel welcome.
- Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and notify management.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Work cooperatively in a high‑paced environment.
