The LGBTQIA+ Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) will play a key role in strengthening specialist domestic abuse support for LGBTQIA+ people across Sussex, providing dedicated, accessible, and trauma-informed advocacy to individuals who have experienced domestic abuse.
The postholder will build and maintain strong working relationships with statutory agencies, local domestic abuse and sexual violence services, housing providers, health services, police, courts, colleges and universities, Switchboard services, and community organisations across Sussex. This partnership approach will ensure LGBTQIA+ survivors can access inclusive, affirming, and holistic support that recognises the complexity of their experiences.
The role involves a combination of direct survivor support, risk assessment and safety planning, specialist advocacy, partnership working, outreach, and service development, with a particular focus on addressing LGBTQIA+-specific experiences of domestic abuse.
The LGBTQIA+ IDVA will work collaboratively with Switchboard colleagues and external partners to reduce risk, improve safety, and empower survivors to make informed choices, while championing best practice in LGBTQIA+-inclusive domestic abuse responses across Sussex.
