Thispositionreportstothe Combination Inspector/Supervisor.

The successful candidate will have the knowledge and/or the ability to learn and keep abreast of existing, revised, and new state and local codes and ordinances and professional developments within the field. In addition, the individual will understand and have the ability to implement building related codes and ordinances enforced by the County, including the International Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Energy Conservation codes, National Electrical code, and Zoning codes.

The anticipated starting salary for this role is $29.131/hour. The full salary range is $29.131/hour - $47.462/hour.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct small to mid-sized inspection types and support duties with a high degree of support, supervision, direction, and guidance.
  • Perform small or basic inspections such as residential based projects to include water heater, furnace, A/C, footings, foundations, and sheathing, roofing, and lath type inspections.
  • Perform mid-sized inspections to include tenant finish, rough-in installations, remodeling, renovations, and additions.
  • Inspect industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during various stages of construction and/or remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations; make determinations regarding approval or disapproval of work being conducted.
  • Inspect existing buildings for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable ICC codes and ordinances.
  • Inspect the demolition and removal of structures in the county.
  • Respond to emergency call out situations to inspect buildings after fire or other catastrophic events; evaluate structural stability; determine if building is habitable and write up reports.
  • Inspect foundation, concrete, steel masonry, wood construction, framing, plastering, plumbing, heating, and installations that contain a large variety of other complex and routine building system elements. Conduct mobile home installation inspections.
  • Issue "Notices to Comply" on violations; issue "Stop Work" orders on work that has been completed without a permit or that is in violation of the established codes; maintain records of historical facts for possible legal actions.
  • Perform inspection activities with other county departments and outside agencies as required.
  • Confer with architects, contractors, builders, and the public in the field and office; explain and interpret requirements, procedures, and restrictions; perform field inspections.
  • Research problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, building construction, and code compliance.
  • Explain laws, ordinances, and code provisions to contractors, property owners, and the public. Advise homeowners, architects, designers, contractors, and developers on code and design requirements.
  • Provide information to designer to assist in correcting deficiencies in construction; develop citizen assistance/code related handouts and information.
  • Resolve and respond to complex and sensitive customer service issues either in person, by telephone, or in writing.
  • Maintain log of inspection activities performed regarding the findings of daily inspections.
  • Perform searches of legal records for names of property owners not in compliance with construction regulations.
  • Review plans in the field to determine conformity to building and zoning codes.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness, as needed.
  • Support the front counter, approve the issuance of building permits, and verify valuations based on the level of work being completed.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
