Student Practice Internship – 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office
OverviewThe mission of the District Attorney’s Office is to keep the community safe and to make the criminal justice system better through the fair and ethical prosecution of criminal offenders, while seeking justice for victims of crime. This externship program offers practical, hands‑on experience in the field of criminal prosecution, allowing participants to develop their skills, deepen their knowledge, and engage in work that supports victims, public safety, and justice.
Responsibilities- Take ownership of your caseload and develop case strategy and trial advocacy under supervision.
- Draft and argue motions and interact with law enforcement, victims, and witnesses.
- Gain confidence in courtroom procedure and jury trial practice through real courtroom experience.
- Participate in training sessions, court observations, and collaborative meetings with experienced prosecutors.
- Represent the people of the State of Colorado in court under the Student Practice Act with supervision.
- Duly enrolled in an ABA‑accredited law school and have completed two years of legal studies.
- Not yet graduated from law school.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Will be fully authorized to appear in court and try cases under supervision.
